Need some info

I don't know the guys in the proper year forum, so I will ask here with your indulgence.

I have a 86 F150 4X4, 351 HO crate engine with 49,000 miles. The truck was wrecked before I bought it and the chassis is bad bent.

There is a sale on the local Craigslist for an 83 F100 that has a good looking straight body, with the 302 and tranny pulled.

I believe that the F100 has some issues, but I am thinking to swap the 4X4 running gear under and into the 83 and get it on the road.

The seller is asking $700.00 for the truck.

What advice can I get on using the 100?

John

The four wheel drive frames and the two wheel drive frames differ. I dont think is reasonably attained without major frame fabrication.

bliss1, you can use the preview feature to check your spelling and layout before you submit.

Actually the skill and knowledge level is highest on the 61-79 forums than anywhere else on this site. After 10 years I know and trust the guys here. There are other forums and sties that guys cut up, and build hotrods with chevy motors etc., but when they need the truth and gospel they come here to the mother church.

Thanks Dave, I was thinking somewhere Ford went with a single chassis design for both the 2wd and 4wd. I probably need to get rid of the 86 and other junk that I have. Bring a huge truck and trailer and take it all away.

That's a no no, don't do it.

1980/83 F100's were advertised as a "Light Truck" by Ford. The frames are F100 only...of lighter construction than an F150 has and do not interchange. The frames have holes drilled in them..aka "Swiss Cheese" frames (some other F Series trucks of this era also use swiss cheese frames).

The wheels, spindles, etc are entirely different than like year F150's use. The wheels have a 4.50 bolt pattern. The rear brakes are 10 inch, the F150 has 11 inch rear brakes. The suspension and shocks are light duty, and will not interchange to a F150.

The 1980/89 Ford truck parts catalog sez: No 4WD 1980/83 F100's were made.

A 1980/83 F100 might look the same as a like F150, but in this case, the looks ARE deceiving!

The F100 was discontinued mid year 1983, replaced by the Ranger.
