Unhappy no spark??

Hello everyone I have been searching for a while on an engine swap for my 1993 f-150 with 4.9 6 cyl FI to convert to a 351w carb. well after months of searching and learning I finally did it. everything went fine until I tried to start it. It wouldn't, I am getting fuel to the carb. and the motor spins when I turn the ignition. I think there is no spark. Again I went back to do research on how to wire the coil but I am lost. The distributor came with the engine which is a 1974 351w and it has only one wire coming out of it. Any help and info will be greatly appreciated. (I am not a professional in this matter so I don't know how to read wiring diagrams.)

It sounds like your dist has points. What you need to do first is get a round coil for a points system. The engine should have had the coil mounted on the engine somewhere. If it's gone, you need it. You should not use the square coil that came with the fuel injection.

Once you get a coil, hook the single wire coming out of the dist to the - terminal of the coil. Also, if you went to buy a coil from the store, also buy a large white resistor that is for a Chrysler product. Mount the resistor somewhere in the open where it will not touch anything, it gets hot. Then run a piece of wire from the + terminal of the coil, to one of the terminals of the resistor.

Look over at the original fuel injection coil connector, and see if you can find a red/lightgreen wire. If you find this wire, make sure it has voltage with the key in run, and then cut it, and move it over and connect it to the other side of the resistor you installed.

Of course you will have to plug in the center port on the new coil you bought into the middle of the dist with a high voltage wire, and then it should fire up.

If you decide to get a new distributor, consider our custom curved Duraspark Distributor built with our new Full Length Oil Impregnated Bronze Bushing. The full length bushing improves timing stability and spark scatter. If stock appearance is not an issue, take a look at our one piece D.U.I. Distributor. Whether you choose the Duraspark or the D.U.I., we curve each on a distributor machine based on your engine combination. Please see them at:

Also, there is now an excellent installation article on the D.U.I. Distributor on the Ford-Trucks.com site at:
