I have a problem with my wipers locking up all the way to the left sometimes. They work fine on a dry windshield but when it is raining they go to far and lockup to the left sometimes! The motor is NOS and should be good.I have new grommetts on the arms on the motor.I have new blades and arms outside. It still seems like there is a lot of flop with the arms and motor.Does anyone have any experience with this problem?Could the motor have some kind of broke spring or something I am over looking.Yep,believe it or not I still run vacuum wipers! They are better than nothing if all is working well!Truck is 1952 F-1 with 239 engine.
Hey, I am still using the old stock wiper too. I have to add a vacuum cannister or let off the throttle at highway sppeds in order for them to make a pass...! It's lots of fun!
What I would do to set the wipers in place is remove the arms, turn on the wiper switch and then off. The wipers on my truck (1954) park themselves, they dont just stop anywhere on the windshield. Then re-mount the wiper arms to the lowest position you can. Now try the wipers again...they should operate within the range of the motor.
Also check to be sure you have the proper length wipers, too long and they will hit on the upward side no matter where you set them.
Good luck with it, Ed
The linkage gets worn out and binds. I can only run one wiper on my 48 even though the linkage and the second wiper in place - it's my spare. The vac just doesn't have enough umph to drag the second wiper around with sloppy linkage. Only solution I could see is to find or fab new.
You can disassemble the motor and coat the inside with KY or vaseline. The original grease used dries up over the years, and soon the motor barely/won't move the wipers.
Slick that window glass with cut plug tobacco!
No, I ain't kidding...this is what ppl did long before Rain X, or even the wipers themselves were invented.

Cut plug tobacco huh??
Interesting tip Bill, you always have some cool little tidbit to share
Are the wipers set up? You might try in the shut off position, to lower the arm closer to the bottom of the window. Maybe? It just be to large of radius maxed to the left of your window. "and that's all I gut to say about that" good luck
When I was rebuilding my '50 F-1, H-226, I noticed that the metal tube that goes into the intake manifold was full of "carbon" or crap. Used a wire to clean it out. Used Vaseline to replace the grease. Works too well at idle ! ! !
