Ok, so I finally got back from school for a few days and had time to work on my 1965 F-350. Before, I was having alot of trouble keeping the thing running smoothly, so I just stuck one of my friends 2bbl carbs on it that I knew worked. It still ran really rough, I would have to keep playing with the gas to keep it running. After a few minutes it stalled, and I looked at the antifreeze and the oil. There is a layer of white foam in the antifreeze, and on the dipstick it looked like there was oil all the way up it. I wiped it off, ran it for like 30 seconds again, and checked the oil and again the dipstick looked like it was covered most the way up. Yikes. I am absolutly at my wits end with this stinking truck. Does anybody have any ideas of what is going on? I have to go back to school tomorrow, and prolly wont be back for a few weeks until christmas break, but I want to have a game plan to get the thing going again. Its a 352 FE motor.
Thanks in advance
Garrett
Is there water in the oil? Oil in the water? Solid oil up on the dipstick or does it look like it was dragged up into the tube from pulling the dipstick out? Is the oil thinned down and smell strongly of gas?
My off the cuff guess would be a blown head gasket but I'd need a little more to go on.
The rough running could also be a sucked intake gasket.
Could be the leak is in the intake at the waterjacket and along that line.. causing poor idle and oil/water mix.. could be alot of stuff, one thing is for sure..it's gotta come apart to some extent..BOL
A leak down test would let you know if it's a cylinder and if not, probably an intake leak.... The cooling systems on a lot of the old FE's didn't get a lot of regular maintenance and sometimes things get all corroded and start leaking....

OK first off, drain the oil. Watch it while it drains. If you got antifreeze in it, do what the guys are saying "Pull the intake". I bet your bolts are lose on the intake. Check them! If so get new gaskets (if that is the case) and replace them. After that, check them once in a while to make sure they stay torqued!
That happen to me one time and I checked the bolts on it.......and sure enough they where lose. I tried to re-torque them but it was too late. JMO
Thanks for the replies. I guess I should have noted this in my post, but I had very recently rebuilt the motor, and all the gaskets were relpaced. Just a few quick questions: You say it could be a cylinder, would that be caused by either the head or intake gasket being sealed incorrectly/loose/ect, or do you mean soemthing more severe? Sounds like i should pull the top half of the motor apart, but before I do, is there anything other than a compression test that I should do to it? Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it.
