3.0 V6 Questions

OK, so I picked up a '91 Ranger (3.0 V6 2WD) cheap just because I needed a truck for around the house stuff. (I had inherited my Dad's '87 F250 a few years back and was impressed with how tough that truck was, not too thrilled with 9 MPG though...) Besides, I do enjoy making beat up cars look nice and run nicer.

Being that I am relatively new to Fords, I have a few questions:

1) I know there is some power to be found with under-drive pulley kits... But doesn't this make the engine run hotter than normal? (GM 3.8 V6 use 3.1 V6 pulleys, but the engines do run hotter than normal and I have seen no mention in all the threads I've searched regarding the Fords)

2) Do F-150 front disc brakes bolt on to the front of Rangers? Has anybody done this? (I'm certain I would have to do some fabricating to make this happen but again, I haven't found anything)

3) Will it cause any issues if I make the intake a straight shot from the grill? By this I mean to move the MAF to directly in front of the throttle body and put the air filter on the front panel between the driver side headlight and radiator. (I'm not looking for cold air intake, just to re-route the existing intake piping)

I've noticed that Rangers seem to be somewhat tempermental with certain mods. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure I have seen some kits coming overdrive pulleys for the water pump, so it still runs at the right speed.

I doubt F150 disks are a direct replacement, whats the thought behind adding them? I haven't been under the hood of an early 90's ranger in long enough to be able comment on part 3.

1) I'm sure that if it were to run hotter, nothing the mechanical fan couldn't take care of. T-stat in the 3.0L V6 is 192* or close. You can get a 180* if you're worried about it running hotter.

2) No idea.

3) I don't see any harm relocating the air intake as long as the MAF sensor is still being used. IMO the shorter and straighter you can get the air intake to be, the better breathing for the engine. Usually it's Speed Density motors that don't take to well to intake changes.

I'm considering doing the rear axle upgrade to make this truck a little beefier for hauling and/or performance. Putting larger front discs would pretty much go hand in hand (In my book that is).

I like to do things just for the hell of it. My last project was a 1985 Pontiac Fiero that I had retrofitted an '88 Fiero rear assembly. The engine was slightly mod'd, Trans, coil overs etc.

Which brings up another question.

With minor mods, the Grand Am brakes work on the Fiero. If I recall, 3.8 haeds bolt right up to the 3.1 V6 and so on and so on...

Does the Ranger have any bolt on's from other Fords?
