As soon as it got cold around here my truck will not start unless I push the gas peddle down and it has absolutely 0 power until it warms up. I mean I can push the peddle to the floor and the truck only goes 5 mph. Once it warms up it runs perfect with all the power in the world. I replaced my glow plug solenoid and still the same problem. Could it be some of my glow plugs? It runs great when it is 30 degrees and above but below that this problem starts. How can I check my plugs? I was planning on changing the wire harness under the valve covers. Should I just plan on putting new glow plugs in also? The truck has 113,000 miles on it and it is a 1999 F350. What brand are the best ones to use. Thanks in advance for any help that is given.
I have had this truck for 5 years and it just started to do this so it is not normal for my truck. I have a Viper remote start which does no good now since someone needs to be in there to hold the peddle down when it starts to keep it running.
You may want to check a couple of things. First your GPR may be getting weak which would might explain your hard starts. You may not have noticed your EBPV working in the past as you have been able to let her warm up. The cold air package these trucks come with will turn on when the oil temp is below 145 degree and air temp is below 45ish. But as The Rat 2 said this is normal.
How can this be normal if I have had the truck 5 years and this problem just started this year? I do not have a EBPV, I took it out. My glow plug relay is brand new.

Two more questions since you said you use a viper to start it.
1) Does it trying to start right away, or does it pause, and wait for the wait to start light to go out?
2) How old are your batteries?

He needs about 10 more post I think before he can fill in his signature.
The long and short of it is that this only happens when it gets cold outside. It has nothing to do with the Viper because I don't even use it any more because of this so I start it manualy and the problem still happens. There is nothing more I can tell you other than what I have posted already. If you read everything I posted or even just my first post you will see all that happens with the problem and all the questions I have asked. It cranks over fine, I just have to hold the gas peddle down for it to start and stay running until it warms up. I don't care what anyone says, this is not normal.
I'm not too sure the symptoms are the same, but awhile back my truck would start normally in the AM and the temp's were below 32*F (more like ~10*F) . I would let it idle for a couple of minutes and I would drive away. Half a block away, I would try to get on the main street and I find that I was not able to go above 20 MPH (but seemed much slower when all the vehicles are wizzing by so fast). No matter what I do the acceleration would not get me past 20. Stepping on the brakes, turning it off and then back on, did nothing. But all of a sudden, boom, I get all my power back. drives normally.
I took it in to the steelership and complained about it. It took them a couple of tries months apart (since this symptom does not happen at a regular intervals). They did eventually replace the EBPS and I believe the pipe going to the exhaust (since it is nice and shiney)
Since then I have not had this problem occure (Since Feb of 03).

This was my problem, but may not be yours.
Dave.
the EBPS tube pluged with soot was my thought to... i figured testing GP 1rst was lot easer.. if they test good..clean the EBPS tube

The tube runs from under it to the front of the passenger side exhaust manifold. look in front of the pasanger side tire just above the frame rail..you can see what looks like a brake line coming out of the exhast manifold..
A crowfoot wrench makes it a little easier to get the upper nut off. Once removed from the truck spray with Brakleen or similar stuff. A 3' piece of 0.95 square weedeater line works good as a snake to run throung to pipe. Repeat spraying and reaming with the weedeater line about 4 times and it usually gets it pretty good. Before reinstalling pressurize the tube to check for any small cracks.
