I filled up with B20 today on a road trip in Bakersfield, Ca. You can't find bio in southern Kalifornia even though this state likes to be associated with strong emissions laws and environmental friendliness. When I found it at a Shell station I didn't hesitate. I noticed the truck was quieter and had a quicker cold start, otherwise ran the same. My question is do I need to worry about changing my fuel filter? I have 2k on the current filter and I change it every 10k.
since your truck is an 03 you might have alot of miles on the truck? the more miles the more regular diesel you have used and depending on the quality of diesel and if you use additives you might have deposits in the fuel system that will get cleaned out by the biodiesel and get stuck in you fuel filters. i don't think you need to worry with only 1 tank of b20 but it depends on how clean you tank/fuel system is. if you start to run b20 or a higher blend for a few more tanks might aswell change you fuel filters. i have learned the hard way that these trucks are very sensitive to fuel pressure and need clean filters to insure proper flow and pressure.
well since you just filled it once and it probably wasn't completely empty and usually B20 is the minimum that it takes to really clean the system real fast and plug filters your probably ok, but I would go ahead and grab one and keep it with you just in case.
