Wes,
I don't mean to belabor this, but lets talk apples and apples. What I said was 214 cubic INCHES per revolution not 214 CFM. That is correct. A 4 cycle engine is a 720 degree cycle so you only get half the intake flow every rev. There are 1728 cubic inches in in a cubic foot so you get 214/1728 cfm per revolution or .124 cfm per revolution of the crank. Multiply that by 6200 to get 768 cfm (more or less a RCH). You are right and so am I. I guess I didn't spell it out clearly. I sure didn't mean to get on your bad side. I love 428s and from your signature line you have a sweet one!
No worries Gary. I don't want anyone on my BAD Side LOL. This has been a hard and terrible week for me (that shouldn't be an excuse what so ever). I know it happens from time to time with people and me included.
I guess that I assumed on what you where trying to say LOL. I have a hard time trying to "spell it out clearly" as well LOL. I got what you are saying. Thanks Gary
JMO, but DON"T BUY HOLLEY!!!! I have been through two of them so far and the one I have now is giving me trouble again. My uncle runs a auto shop here in town and he has had three different ones go bad in the last several months. I am not talking about old ones either. They have all been new only months old. Mine was bad out of the box. Everybody I talk to now says buy Edelbrock. Just something to think about.
I find that hard to believe, maybe a bad one once in a while I can see. They wet flow the the StreetAvenger series, you would think they would find and correct any problems before it left the factory selling their product? As big as Holley is and their reputation plus only months old that should be a free replacement carb.

I'm with Beemer Nut on this. Are you sure it wasn't a Demon Carb???? If so then that would explain why it was bad out of the box then! Too many people had problems with Demons in the past......JMO

You go right on and buy your Edelbrocks. Us winners will keep our Holleys. None of mine have ever "gone bad". You and your buds must be doing something wrong. Check your ignition and put a fuel filter in the lines.

Yeah yeah, I did everything that Holley said to do. Us weaners you mean!! How old are they??? These have all been less then a year old carb's. My dad has one on a 67 F100 that has been on there for probably 15 years with no problems. Holley has moved to Mexico and now there quality is crap. The carb was a free replacement, but it's the point that I paid $350 for a 750 4160 carb and it was junk!!! The replacement Holley I got has been ok for about 6 months and now it is starting to do the same crap the other one was doing. Ignition don't cause the carb to drain gas into the intake after you cut it off, does it smart man. Before anyone says check the float level, it was checked on both bowls and neither one was out of adjustment.
you never said if the truck was a 4spd or slipomatic, either way if all you want is max acceleration to 70 or above go with a 750 if you have at least 3.50 gears, a smaller carb will help bottom end torqe but strangle at higher rpm, use 69 primary jets, a 10.5 power valve and 74 secondary jets, if you want more drivability screw on a 600, you can have one or the other, max power or tame street manners,I can live with a rowdy engine for daily driving, I CAN'T live with ANY honda passing me EVER!!!

Sorry dude, but Holley's don't just start going to crap after 6 months of use. There's something other than the carb that's causing the problem, and that's either ignition or fuel quality related. If it's suddenly dumping fuel into the intake, that sounds to me like you had a massive backfire and the powervalve ruptured (something I've never had happen) To get a back fire like that, it had to have been caused by something other than the carb itself. Instead of talking the carb down, why don't you take the time to diagnose the problem ? And then let us know what it was. If you don't want the carbs, send em to me, I'll gladly take em off your hands if you hate em that much. P.S. There's also the off chance the floats sunk in the bowls, but that's also a rare occurence, but an easy fix, just replace the floats.

I dought it was fuel quality, cause I am running 93/110 octane mixed 50/50 Citgo gas in it. I have had it looked at and tested by three different mechanics. Holley won't even reply to me when I tried to ask them about it. That's all your opinion and this is my experiance. "Holley's Don't" BS never say don't, say shouldn't because they sometimes do. Not that they all do, but these few have. I'm not getting in a peeing match about all this and hijacking this thread so I've said enough. You can take it or leave it I really don't care!!! Have a good day
Octane and brand don't have a relation with quality. Dirt and water get into every brand occasionally. I used to haul fuel, I know this to be true. You bought Citgo gas, but I doubt it came from a Citgo refinery. It's someother brand fuel mixed with Citgo's additives more than likely. And with Citgo's owner acting the "***" down in Venesuala, there's no telling what shortcuts they've made with their fuel additives.

And I've used at least 30 Holley's on engines over the years and never had a problem that wasn't dirty fuel of idiot with tools caused. As to the hundreds of Holleys I've dealt with professionally, the same applies. Edelbrock's carbs are just the old Carters that were a pain in the *** to tune and carb fire prone way back in the dark ages. Don't believe the fire prone, ask anyone who had an early Hemi with a pair of the PIA things.

Why are you using a 50/50 mix??? I was just curious as too why?
