Block Heater Plug Location

I have an 08 f350 diesel and according to manual the plug for the block heater should be located by the front bumper on the passenger side of vehicle. I looked and don't see it. Can anyone advise. Thanks in advance.

ajm, you may not have it. Ford only supplies the heater cords for trucks going to the "cold" states. I'm in WV (not a cold state according to Ford) but I went to my local International dealer and bought the cord and installed it myself. The part #ZBL3600008 and under 30 bucks.

I insalled a Webasto heater in my F-350 and it comes on 30 min. before I start and the truck is warm. I also do alot of sitting on location and in the winter time you need to stay warm. I just hit the buton and keeps inside warm for 30 min. Best $2000.00 spent. no idleing truck and usees very little fuel.

Hey mo1
I heard the Webasto's use a lot of juice from the batteries, that on some trucks the batteries were dead when they went to start them. How many times have you had to get a boost?

Webasto

when I use the Webasto in the morning I have no problem. You can only run on location for 1 hour at a time and start truck for 15 min to charge batteries. I learned the hard way on my GMC when I had one in that one. They say if you run it for 15 min. you should run the truck for 15 min. but I have not had a problem in the Ford yet. I amd up here in Alberta Canada and it can get really cold in the winter and have not plugged my truck in yet. The Webasto only uses 0.6 liters per hour. You would have to fiqure that out in US gallans but it not much. I will put one in my next truck.

Where did you mount your Webasto? Is your truck an '08? Cause there sure isn't much room under the hood in the '08's. Was it hard to install, did you have to drop your fuel tank to hook up the fuel line. I bet it gets really cold up there, since your so close to the Yukon.

If you are running for the winter 15W-40 it is recommended to use the block heater when the temps are expected to be 20 F or less.
This only applies to newer engines.

Be careful not to use any timer other than a high-amperage (heavyduty) one. The others will melt into a blob of useless plastic due to the high current demand.

Webasto

I had a shop mount the unit they put it right behind the passanger front wheel and yes they have to drop the fuel tank to put the line in. But for $2000.00 dollars all this was included and we are not close to the Yokon. Where I live we are 1/2 hour north of Montana.

How long did it take to put in. Was your truck tied up for the whole day?
$2000.00 that's a lot of money, could pay quite a few monthly power bills with that by plugging in the block heater. Do you live in some bush camp where they don't have power? Certainly there must be even generators there, that you could plug in your block heater.

Webasto

Took about 6 hours. I use it more when I am sitting on location watching rig crew work. If I were to idle to stay warm I would use half to three quarters of a tank a day. With the price of fuel it pays for it self pretty fast. If you go to the dealers they charge more for the unit and install but if you go to the Webasto dealer it not as much. Down in the US you could probley pick one up for less.

Hey Mo1

Does the Webasto turn on automatically, or do you have go outside and turn the switch on? Is there a key fob deal to activate it.

You have to get a timer with the unit and can set it for any time you want. You can get a remote which I did nut won't do again because I have had it 1 year and used once just to try. This option was another $200.00 CND. The timer is extra but a must.

Hey Mo1
How's it going? Just wondering if before you bought your Webasto, did you also look into the Espar heater, if you compared the two and what the difference was, that made you buy the Webasto. I heard that the Espar is a little cheaper in price. Also heard that the Espar has a few built in safety features such as auto shutdown when battery voltage gets low so you can still start your truck - that sounds like something you could use on your unit, so you don't have to keeping boosting your truck.
