ok so i posted a thread earlier on about this but it still doesnt work. My heater on my 1996 F150 I-6 will not get hot. I replaced the heater core and checked the temp control switch. Now when i turn the temp control switch from cool to hot i can see it working on the other end of the vacuum lines. So my question is is it possible that the switch is goin out and not openin the heater door all the way to allow the hot air into my vents or am I looking at dropping my dash to get some heat out of my very very cold truck? Anythings helps, thanx everyone.
The first thing you need to do is find out if the heater CORE is even getting hot. If not, the problem is probably the water pump. If so, then it's just a matter of getting the hot air through the vents in which case I can't be of much help.
yeah the core is getting hot. i do know that. i kinda lost a screw to the heater core box so i can feel the hot air coming out of the box. I just drove 7 hours to get where i am at now, so the water pump is fine. Anything else??
It is possible for the water pump to be able to move enough coolant to keep the motor from overheating but not enough to circulate enough coolant through the heater core. The heater core is the first thing to loose proper circulation when the water pump starts to get weak due to the how far away it is. If this is not your problem then it's just a matter of plumbing from the heater core to the ducts and thats just tearing into the dash and finding the problem.
I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, i do know that the water pump is less than a year old, the lines to and from the heater core are extremely hot, and up until i did a flush of the coolant the heater worked fine. After I drained the flush/water mixture and replaced it with new coolant the heater refused to heat.
Check that heater water hoses are not crossed.
The front hose goes to the driver’s side of the heater.

Number one you do not have a temp control switch.
You have a temp control **** that moves a cable (no vacuum hose) that changes the position of the blend door.
You may have something in the duct keeping the blend door from moving all the way (pins, ice cream sticks and so on).
You could have air in the system. That will keep the water from circulating. If you drained the radiator and refilled it did you let the truck heat up and then add to it after the T-stat opened and it started circulating? Make sure you aren't low on coolant. Sometimes you have to add after a days driving.
What do you see working on the other end of the vacuum lines? Possible you broke a vacuum line during your work. Check all those good, they tend to break right at the fitting and you can't tell unless you wiggle it.
If your luck is like mine you did something to cause the problem then have to go back over everything to find it.
ok looking at the routing of the air and with everything that my truck is doing, i am convinced that something is wrong with the temp blend door. Is there anyway to tell if it is broke, or stuck closed with minimal disassembly? Is there a manual way of opening the door to the heat position? and thanks for the welcome.
Almost a certainty that you have air in your system...everything points to it. Run the vehicle from a cold start without the radiator cap on for about 10 miles. After the run, open the hood and add more coolant to the system as you'll almost certainly be low. What this procedure does, in essense, is "burps" the air from the system. Worked for me and I've had this problem a few times in a few different vehicles.

i had a piece of dowel rod fall and blockit shut. I can send you pics to show my red neck solution. I removed the glove box. cut an access into the duct reached in removed the dowel and duct taped it bacl in. you can't see it with the glove box in and if another pencil or something falss down i'm not dropping the dash.
yeah see i dont want to drop the dash either. any pics would help, i was wondering if the blend door is stuck somehow, could i open manually if i took out the heater core again?

when the core is out you can work on the blend door.
