Unplugged wire in steering column?

I have a 97 Aerostar that I needed to change the multifunction switch on because the signals didn't return. When I took the steering column cowl off there was a wiring plug hanging there that wasn't plugged in anywhere. A picture of it is at http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc151/Altonguy/steeringcolumnwire.jpg

It looks like it used to be plugged in somewhere. I had the multifunction switch replaced about a year ago at a shop and since then the cruise would kick out when I used the blinker. I didn't see how those were related so I just didn't worry about it much. Now the blinkers won't return after the turn is finished again so I was going to try changing the switch myself. Any idea of what that wire plug should go to? I don't see anything obvious. Thanks, Gil

Hey Altonguy,
Alton Illinois? I was born there. Welcome to the Forum. I will simply say this. I will look at my can bird (Spare aero for parts) 2morrow and get back to you. I'll open it up around the steering column and try and help you (that is if no one on here beats me to it). Along with your mechanism for the blinker to accuate back in the steering column I agree it sounds worn. The only other thing I'm thinking is -is that the clock Spring mech. is in your column actually you have to remove your steering wheel and then your air bag (92-97 Aero's). My clock spring went out-it controls the horn and the cruise. I brought this up in the case because you said your cruise was acting intermintently once you blinker was applied. Either a short or they work/share possibly the same circuit. You will get advice from folks asking what codes you are seeing. Their are manual ways of pulling them out and there are the expensive devices you actually plug into your wiring harness. Go to the Forum link and then hit search. Type in a simply description of what you need and then hi-light the word Aerostar on the bottom. I'll keep you posted in any even once I look tomorrow. Alton huh? Cool. Yeah I was born at Alton Memorail there some 42 years ago. 42 years? Damn-I'm going to run away now-forgot I was that old. C U--respectfully Boz

I believe the piece in question is the connector that makes the chime sound if you leave the key in the ignition. I replaced an ignition switch (kep cylinder part) once and never could get that to goi back in right. So, I taped it off and tucked it in. The key chime never has worked again, but nothing else was affected.

Hi Blinky eyed bald guy:

Welcome to our FTE forum

FTE= FIST THUMP in your EYE if you don't change your face show!

Your lil picture buddy is starting to get on my nerves. Heed my warning or I'll pull your coil wire after I make your aero give you a false comp. reading that makes you drive her off into the river.

Come on Bozzzzz. I would change my avatar in a second, if I can locate the button. Alas, with my eye problem, I'm doing everything by touch these days
