I have a 650 CFM Edelbrock Thunder on my newly built 351w and it seems like it is running very rich when it's cold. When it's 90 degrees outside it still seems to stumble when starting cold and sometimes feels like it's going to die unless I give it more gas. I started it today in 50 degree weather and the same, stumbles a lot until warmed up and there is dark smoke coming out of the exhaust until it warms up. Once the engine warms up it runs smoothly and no smoke. Any idea what the problem might be?

Sounds like the choke is too tight. Also, in the lower temps you might get some carb icing until the underhood temp warms up unless you are running the stock air cleaner with the heat riser functioning.
When it was warmer out, I set the choke correctly... and I tried holding it open when it was fumbling and it didn't seem to make any difference. I'll open it all the way up and see how it starts when I get home but it's 40 degrees now.
Yeah, that's not helping at all. I opened the choke up all the way and it is still running really rough and smoke coming out of the tailpipes... I may just take it to a shop and have them figure it out.
I already adjusted those so they are a little lower... lowered them around 2/16" from Edelbrock's recommended 7/16"
Could it be running too rich no matter what (not just when cold starting), but only showing the symptoms when it hasn't warmed up? I'm going to try some different rods and jets... try for leaner cruise and see if that helps.<hints id="hah_hints"></hints>
