My truck has a 239 flathead that I believe was rebuilt long ago. I am trying to figure out when? I read somewhere that Ford re-builders sometimes re-stamped the engine build date code found on the top machined surface of the block. I think that the Twin Cities re-builder of my engine did that because the stamped code doesn't make any sense. Here are some pictures. Maybe some of you Ford parts guys can help me with this.
Although it is hard to read in the second picture the stamping is clear,
it is C 2 W
The first picture shows a decal on the left cylinder head.
The last picture is a data plate riveted to the block near the coil.

Most info on rebuilt engines indicates the rebuilder, factory or aftermarket, ground the original date code off. I've never seen or heard of a rebuild with a assembly date still on the intake flat, but there's a first time for everything..........
I have a hunch only the rebuilder knows what C2W stood for.
C could stand for March. 2 for the day: March 2nd.
In Ford production date codes, C is the third month. (Example: '65 Mustang production date: 02C = March 2nd, 1965)
The W could stand for the size of the parts (.030 etc) installed, or an assembly number. It could also be an employees code letter, the guy who did the work.

This is a picture of the number stamped on left side of block between intake manifold and left head. This is on a stock 337 ci. flathead. The first number is 'N1718'. It has been crossed out with the number one. The second number is 'P4051'. I don't know what they mean.
