I didn't realize how bad the tranny in the 78 was until I put the new one in, what a difference in noise. No whine or growl and it shifts so very nice now and I can even hear the radio. Next job is to replace the window felts to cut down on the wind noise it is pretty bad driving into the wind. They are badly dried out and cracked and are falling to pieces. I think I can replace them for about a $100. Also the other day I stopped by to see how much it would cost to get the seat recovered and the guy told me about $300 worse case so I might get that done this spring also.
Good stuff Colin, glad to hear that it`s so much better now. $300 for the seat upholstry is decent deal.
I picked up a nice seat for my 53 tonite, almost newly redone in grey for $200.
that is good stuff for sure!! did you get your transmission rebuilt?? or put a new one in there?? i've got to get some window felts for my '83 too, but i'm not driving it at all right now so the wind noise doesn't bother me...
Hey Corner Gas, can I suggest getting a bench out of a newer truck instead? Bolts right to your existing seat tracks and more comfortable than old bench seats. I have one from an 87 F150 XLT in mine. Colour even matches! To me the old seats feel like sitting on top of a marshmellow.
I am having a tough time locating a seat for my truck so that is why I inquired about getting it redone. You guys are right it would be cheaper and easier if I can find one , I have lots of time so there is no rush to get it done.
