240 or 300
If someone can help me, would appreciate it alot. Just bought a 65 Ford F-100, how do I determine if it has a 240 or 300. It is suppost to have a 240, but I was looking at the casting number and it was D5TE-601S-AA, It was hard to read. Also it has a 3 on the tree shifter possibly what kind of trans would this be. Hope this is enough info...Thanks Im pretty sure it is a 300, were they making 240's in 1975

According to the Ford Archives, the 240 was manufactured from 1965-1972,and the 300 from 1975-1996, so it should be a 240. This being correct if some one has not swaped the engine. The two engines are nearly identicle with the same bore. The 300 has a little longer stroke; ie more torque and the 240 head has a slightly smaller combustion area.
As to the casting numbers, I'm not up to speed on these.
