Hey, I just went to inspection yesterday, with 115K on the clock. Truck is 5.8L with air pump removed, egr sealed off, thermactor tubes removed. All that is on is the cat. I also have 36's on 16.5x10's they do stick out a little in the front. Guy was like I should fail you for tires but I like your truck so I will let is slide. Emissions read HC's: Standard 200 read 143. CO%: Standard 3.00 Read 1.69. CO2: No standard but read 12.2. Still cant beleve that they passed it. Truck has longtubes, custom dual y pipe. They didnt care, was looking under with mirror for a while. If you live in NJ dont be scared of inspection. LOL HAVE A HAPPY THINKSGIVING
Well in all reality, they could just say that you installed all of the equipment after you got your inspection. I have a friend that does car inspections, and he rarely worries about things like large tires and whatnot, just cause if it ever comes back to him, he just says that they must of installed them after the fact. It would be the same for instance if you would of removed your big tires with a small spare set just to get the inspection, they couldnt of said anything then right! It is more of an issue for the police then the guys giving the inspections..
You make a very good point bender. Only problem is that you must FIND an inspector who is willing to have that attitude and take the risk of saying 'well it wasn't there when I inspected it'. Sure wish I could have that kind of luck
So he was going to fail you because your tires stick out a little in the front?
LMAO, glad I live in NC and know people around here. I could run straight pipes and get them passed, jsut bevause I know people. lol vehicle regulations are just a little strict in my opinion. I could understand if you had 44 inch boggers, that were threatening to throw rocks at peoples windsheilds.
I am a State inspector in NH---the big problem is that the DMV has people out there trying to set you up===if you give em a break they bust you later----you could lose the license!!! Best to swap things out prior to inspection and swap back later---
NH just started testing OBD, and that has turned people really nasty !!!

I hear ya Gary... thats what I thought... other then getting to know the mechanic that does your work/inspect your vechicle then its best to swap out the "bad" parts and then just replace them after!

These readings that you quoted are from an "idle emissions test"--right?? You aren't doing the chassis dyno rear wheel rollers I/M240 test--right?? And did the inspector look under the hood??
a 95 gets a rolling dyno test. pre 80 gets standing sniffer test in jersey.
and state inspection stations do open the hood. as long as you pass the emissions test, you pass. the fact you have headers on the truck does not matter.
You got it good in NJ--in Colorado--you will fail even if the emissions are within limits if any of the emission control equipment is disabled or missing!!
