tiny little wire

i was studyin' under the hood of my '80 4x4 convert, I noticed that all electrical power from the battery to the vehicle (except starter) run on a single wire, I think a 14 gauge, if I were to replace this wire, with say a 12 gauge, (to prevent meltdown) where would be the best place to run it to? I know it'll have to make a stop at the alternator, but then where? fuse block? also, I want to put 4 KC's on the bumper and 4 on the roll bar, They will each be on their seperate fuse (auto zone fuse blocks) and a relay for the front ones and a relay for the upper ones, but is a stock charging system gonna be able to carry them? I won't be running them unless the engine is running, (alt. charging) so I think i'll be okay, just wanted to know what y'all thought.

I would leave the single wire alone if it's factory. It should have a fusible link in in already. It should only have to serve the original truck's elec load if you do not add anything to the stock fuse box, and run all your added stuff on the aux fuse boxes you where talking about. The stock charging system is good for at least 60 amps, possibly more if you have an optional alternator(usually on a truck with A/C). I think it will handle it, especially if you set the idle speed up just a little bit.
