4 questions

have an 07 20k 6.0 had 4 questions:

1.) why is the a/c light on when i have the heat on auto? it comes out hot but the a/c light stays on. Is this normal??

2.) at around 5psi of boost the turbo makes a noise which sounds like when you blow into the side of a half empty soda bottle. Is this normal??

3.) when i shut the truck down and get out you can hear the turbo (i think it is the trubo) on the drivers side near the back tire winding down. it does not sound like it is turning really smoth either. sounds like it is rubbing against somthing. not loud but you can hear it if you go to the back of the truck and neal down. it will wind down.

4.) lastly when i drive i can hear something like a fan on all the time when i give it throttle it will wind up i let go it will wind down like a fan is on almost when you dirve next to a big rig and you hear the fan getting faster and getting slower depending on the throttle. is this normal??

the truck runs awsome very pleased with it just wondering about those little things. thank you everyone i would appreciate all your help

The fan noise winding up and down is probably the turbo. The a/c light coming on in auto is, I believe, comes on since the system can adjust the temp up or down, depending on where you set the temperature set point, and what the cab temp is. My 6.0 does pretty much everything you mentioned ( not sure about the noise at shut-down).

the noise at shut down is normal. If you don't hear it, you have turbo problems. The turbo is spinning at a few thousand rpms and does not stop immediatelym so it takes up to about 30 seconds to wind down. The reason you hear it at the back of the truck is because the turbo is part of the exhaust system, so if you put your ear up to the tailpipe it would be the loudest.

so i would presme that all symptoms 1-4 are normal?? now at shutdown with that noise i presumed it was the turbo as well as the noise at 5psi. now is it at shutdown supposed to sound that it is rubbing against metal?? or is it supposed to sound smooth??

thank you very much.

Ford likes to leave the A/C on most of the time to help keep the system lubed and keep the seals from drying out. The compressor won't run very often, and it shouldn't change the temp of the air much. You can shut it off by pressing the A/C button if you wan't but it won't change much.

The same thing acutally happens in the trucks with manual controls, you just don't realize it as much (since there is no light that tells you). The A/C is on in all positions except floor only and off I believe.

1 through 3 are normal for sure. Your loud fan noise, if it is a loud roaring type noise it could be the fan clutch engaging, which shouldnt happen unless the truck is running hot. Now if the noise is just a whistling sound it is just the turbo, which is normal.

ok thank you now the fan noise sounds like a big rig. think of when you are stuck in traffic and a rig is next to you when he starts going you can hear the fans i guess and when he stops it goes away. that is what it sounds like. now i believe it is not all the time b/c i dont always notice it.

i noticed the power steeing is low what should i fill it with. and could this cause the truck to make noise on left turns??

hee,hee,

that 6.0 sounds badazz! enjoy!

just fill the power steering with multi purpose ATF. you will be fine or they sell power steering fluid(same thing without the dye) if it makes you feel better.
