OK...where's that wire?

Where is the dang "chime" or whatever it's called that's in these trucks? When Im sitting in my truck getting ready to leave, I leave my door open so I can talk to my friends (or whenever the door is open and Im around the truck), and when the key is in the ignition the chime drives me nuts!

How can I disable this? And I do know that it won't remind me when I leave my lights on, but thats fine with me...I always check the light switch before I get out anyways.

And as soon as I finish typing this, Im going out to unhook the door switch that turns on the interior lights.

I'm just trying to solve little issues that have always bugged me now that I have some free time before work.

The chime is inside the module. you can disable the switches on the door latch to disable the chime (not recommended but effective). The ignition one is on the key cyl. remove the cyl and disable the switch.

Thanks for the quick response. I have one more question. There are two plugs that go to my door latch. I can barely get my hands on the top one, and when I disconnected it, nothing happened. The second one is too far down for my huge hands to reach. I can get to the wires to cut them though, but will cutting them disable the dome lights?

Now, I am NOT electrically competent (sp?), and Im thinking that when the circuit is open (latch closed) the lights stay off. When the latch circuit is closed (door open) it lets the lights come on. So if I cut the wires, would that cause the lights to stay on all the time? Or if I did cut them, would I have to solder them together to complete the curcuit?

I'm lost

*EDIT*
Or would it be easier just to take out all the bulbs inside the cab?

So if I cut the wires, then the lights will stay off?

I'm going crazy over here. I've been trying to force my hand inside the door to get at the plug (ouch!), contemplating cutting the wires, and still trying to find out which plug does what...

Damn electronic BS...Grrrrrrr....

Yes if you cut the wires they will stay off. I would definetely try just unhooking the connector though.

OK...thank you very much for your help

Believe me, I tried to stuff my hand in there to unplug the connector...but it was never going to happen. I pondered the idea of taking the latch completely out to access it, but I knew I would drop something in there or mess it up one way or another.

I actually had the dikes on the wires just waiting to be cut...but I wasn't 100% sure...

That will be tomorrow's project now. It's dark, the door panel is back on, and I have to be at work in 30 minutes...

I guess i've never really paid attention on this truck, but wouldn't it be easier to destroy the little black box that makes the chime?

it was relly easy to do on my suzuki, I just not sure where it in on the f-150's

No, you wanna ground the circuit. It's the door ajar switch. if you ground it/close the door, the door ajar light turns off. clip the wire and connect it to a ground in the door or the ground wire for the switch.

And no, your dome lights will not come on when you open the door if you disable the switch.
It would be easier to lay your keys in the seat than to hang them in the ignition.

Hi ATC
An easy fix without cutting any wires.
Hold the inside door handle up and close the latch. There are to positions on the latch, you have to close it completely to get the inside lights/chimes to shut off.
Just make sure you open the latch before you close the door.

I've been doing that for a while now....but it's a PITA, and you always forget to open the latch.

I dont know how the wire is attached to the latch. You would think that it plug in to a switch. I dont know. Maybe a jumper wire to simulate it being latched. Sorry for not being more helpful.

It's a simple plug...but there is no way I can get my hands to it (and the locking tabs are on the bottom).
