Make sure your remote wire is not hooked up to a 12v constant source. It needs to be hooked up to a 12v switched wire (turns on and off with the key). And be sure to never go back to those install shops.

As blacklariat said, test the wire you are using for your remote wire. Disconnect it from the amp and use a test light. With the key off, if the wire has power, you have teh wrong wire coming back. It should only light up the test light when the car is on or if the radio is on (depends on where your wire is coming from).
