I posted the question below about my F150 I6 that all of a sudden runs rough and I'm thinking a fuel problem. Well the fuel pressure checks out fine. Right around 50 psi. Both running and off. Pressure regulator disconnected it rises 10 psi. Just what the manual says it should be. Map sensor checks out ok too.
So now what do I look for?
And by the way for fuel pressure reading I took a 0 to 100 psi gauge and screwed a tire inflator gizmo on it. Works just fine.
Thanks for the help and hope someone has another good idea. I'm tired of having this truck sitting in my way.
Lynn, let me start it off. If it runs good and then gets bad, then something changes (you knew that) maybe because temperature warmed up (temp sensor), a sensor gives some bad info to the computer, ignition advances... I'd switch from fuel to electrical or vacumm. Defintely ought to run your codes. The $30 readers do a good job. Also while you're working on it, never pass up the obvious, plugs, wires, ignition cap screw,... make sure the vacuum lines are good (in a 90 model they have to be pretty brittle)and replace that original 02 sensor, just do it. Us home mechanics can fidget around, replace a few extra parts and still come ok compared to the bill "the shop" will give you (at Ford $150 just to analyze the codes!)
Hi Lynn. I agree with Stephens, look to electrical now, either ignition or a bad sensor. How is it running rough? Is it hard to start? Maybe a description of what it does will give a clue....
I saw a code reader for the older Fords at Walmart for $19 this past weekend. Someone once told me that either a coil works or it doesn't, but my Windstar had a problem where it had a bad coil and was intermittant and only affected RPM ranges. A bad coil wouldn'r send any codes (until it started affecting other systems) and its an easy check.
