I am looking to replace my stock "driving" fog lights for something else........HELLA,PIAA,or KC DAYLIGHTER....I have an 01 X limited 4X4....
Are there any that can still use the stock switch and light hook-ups?I know some kits have relays and in-line fuses, but I'm looking to keep the switch on the headlight switch and that will be to much amp draw for that wiring.......at least I think so!! The stock ones just don't put out enough light for my liking just looking for a better replacement...............
Thanks
John

The OEM fog lights are 43 watts. Numerous people have been useing a different bulb in the same lamp (9005) that are 65 watts.
Most of the Hella, PIAA aftermarket replacements I have looked at are 55 or 65 watts so I don't see why you would have an issue with these on the stock switch.
My plan was to install the Piaa 940's with both driving and fog lights in them and run them at the same time (a little over 100amps total) and in this case I would run the stock switch to a relay to turn on and off the lights.

I the stock foglamps already are run off of a relay and not directly off of the switch. The relay is labeled "K26" and is in the Central Junction Box under the dash.
I do agree that if you are running over-wattage bulbs, that you should add the second relay under the engine compartment with a fused power lead from the battery.
I added in the silverstar ultras 9005 along with a relay, they now stay on with the high beams as well and are a HUGE difference, actually right now they're brighter than the headlights on low(those are silverstars as well)
a worthwhile upgrade and a cheap 5 min fix!

where did you ADD the relay or did you repalce the stock one for a larger one?? this seems like the way I need to go!! and would like more info on HOW you did it!!

I just brought the wires from the relay(mounted up near the battery box) down to the actual light location, I cut the stock wires and added in some small molex connectors so I can snap the factory wiring back together of need be, also I can use it as the feed for the lights on the rod/cooler rack that I'm going to be installing shortly.
I'll see if I can get underneath to get some pics today
