Just started hearing some air leak while im in over drive around 1500-2k but it doesn't do it all the time very rare actually. it seems like it happens more at night then day. the truck is a 00 7.3 psd all stock. any one got any ideas where to start looking?
I'm not sure you can hear a boost leak under those circumstances. Any other symptoms or observations to go on? Where is the sound coming from?
sounds like its comming in back of the radio in that area. when I herd it I shut every thing off air, radio etc and it was still there. it doesn't idle werid or any thing.
Exhaust leak, IMO.
It's not a very good design for holding together and you are venting exhaust drive pressure somewhere.
I just had my turbo out last weekend for those new bellowed up pipes and found that the exhaust housing had two loose bolts holding it to the flange. Black soot coming out the back of the turbo and spraying the firewall behind the turbo. I couldn't see it until I pulled the turbo out. (Kris, I had it unbolted in about 15 minutes, but spent next 1.5 hours trying to get that clamp on the exhaust Y-pipe dislodged from 80k miles of clamped down hard. I didn't have a new one and didn't want to bend it, so I had to be gentle with it. It's easy to believe your 19 minutes with a little practice.)
Those brand new Ford style up-pipes that I installed last spring were black and leaking all over again.
Venting drive pressure all over the place and costing me boost pressure and fuel economy.
Hopefully these bellowed pipes will do the trick and not crack or something.
so when ya rev it up to about 2k it starts to leak and drops about 250-500 rpms. even the exhaust gets really loud almost sounds like a small jet spinning any ideas would be great

If I get around to it, I'll try to tape a piece of cardboard behind the turbo before I do my 2 day tow to Vegas next Thurs, and then pull it out and look for soot! Or do you think the cardboard would catch fire and just burn up?
I'm hoping I hit a "truck pot" on one of those million $ slots, then I won't have to worry about exhaust leaks, at least for awhile anyway!
