[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Feb-02 AT 03:16 AM (EST)]I have a 300-6 with a 3-speed column shifter, and a 3.00 9'rear. I was wondering if anyone with a 3-speed has had any problems squealing the tires? Also, is there a way to make the tranny a little more beefier or more heavy duty? as in rebuilds?
I'm asking because last Sunday, I was driving in town and hit a red light. I live in Alaska, and saw the first blacktop in months so I decided to drop the clutch and slammed the gas. When I did the clutch pedal suddenly hit the floor and I was stuck in first gear. What happened was the equalizer bar (I think that's what it is) came off the to plastic ***** it rolls on to push the throw-out bearing in. I had to unbolt the bracket off the frame to get the bar back on and luckily found the adjuster bolt for the clutch pedal. Me or anyone else has no idea how this happened. The only thing I can think of is that the motor shifted over enough (1.5"! at least) to throw the bar off. Also does anyone know where i can get some new motor mounts for the 300-6, because when I went to get some new ones they were all to big. And that was from a couple different parts stores. Has anyone else had this problem with motor mounts being the wrong size?
You are just plain lucky that the engine didn't go through radiator. The clutch linkage fell off because the engine torqued up becasue the motor mounts are bad. What year are you working on probably can give you Ford part number.
I am new at this working on trucks on thing and I have a 78 f100 custom with a 3 speed column shifter. Anyone out there know if it is possible to switch that to a floor shifter? That column is a nightmare to shift very fast and it takes forever to go from one gear to the next.
i have an '82 f-150 w/ a 300ci. i6 and 3sp. i have a hurst indy shifter. its a conversion kit from hurst that converts the column linkage to the floor shifter. its kinda tricky to hook up. but its a hell of alot better then the 3 on the tree setup.
I did the same thing with a '67 Ford F100. Put a Hurst shifter on the floor when the column broke. Worked great. Used it to tow 2 loaded grain wagons to the elevator. Never had a problem towing anything with it. Wasn't made for doing burnouts though. Got great traction and when popping the clutch in first would damn near bring the front tires off the ground. I had yanked the 240 and put in a 300 using the intake and exhaust from the 240 with the 1 barrel carb. 18mpg and ran fine. Moog Cargo Coils (variable rate coil springs) on the front stopped the wander and tire wear.
I have a 85 f-150 with a 3.03 column shifter would like to know if there is a rebuild kit out there for the linkage yoke. Would really like to keep the column shifter it is an occassion only vehicle
