Does anyone know where the fuel tanks actually physically ground? My 86 has a single tank, and the black wire off the sending unit disappears into the harness. It doesn't seem to ground anywhere near the tank. I can't tell where it goes short of taking the harness apart to trace it. Not being a fan of unecessary work, I'm hoping someone on here knows.
I dont know if this will help, there would be one wire that goes to the gauge, because the gauge works off the "ground" from the tank. Many folks think that it is a hot wire that goes to gauge from tank, but for safety reasons it is a ground, the wire that dissapears into the harness may be the one to the gauge. You may be able to attach a "ground" wire from the frame to the metal retainer/braket on the sending unit, or there may be a tab or such you can hook to. Just a thought, I hope it is of some help.
Thanks Mike...it's actually a yellow/white wire from the gauge to the sending unit in the tank, then the sending unit grounds through a black wire along with the in-tank fuel pump to another location on the truck. I'm trying to find where that ground terminates without having to tear my wiring harness apart.
