Question Power steering problem

I am a guy from Norway, that have a problem with my power steering. I have a f 250 7,3 2000 model. The problem is, after driving for about 10 min or so the steering get hard and wigley and the brakes have little or no asist from the brake booster. If I stop and look down in the pump reservoir with the engine running, I cant see any fluid. Its empty.I can see the return from the oil cooler, because I put a hose from the cooler to the top of the pump and the flow looks alright to me. When I stop the engine I can see the fluid in the pump reservoir rise and go back to normal level again. If sombody have any idea whats wrong, it would be nice to hear from them.
By the way the diesel price in Norwayis about 2$ for a .liter

Hey Bones, it sounds as though you have air in you system. You'll have to raise the truck's ft wheels and turn the wheels back and fourth untill you get all the air out. Hopefully the pump isn't ruined from running it with the air in the system. You should feel a difference in your braking when you get the air out too. Or try draining all the fluid out when you get a chance and go with a synthetic fluid. It's much better for the PS system too.The Diesel here is about $2.65 a Gallon. Ahh I think that puts you at about 7 bucks a gallon!! Holy Crap WOW!! Thats just plain wrong...Take Care, Country.

I find it hard to believe, but the only thing that isgoing to "store" fluid like that is a ballooning hose..

Double check for leaks. Also your system could be sucking air from one of the lines. That being said, some of these lines have seals too. So you need to be carefull not to overtighten these lines or you can tear the seals. They should be snugged and not tightend. I'll try to find a picture and point out these lines that have seals. Could one of the valves in the pump be stuck open? Sounds like you might need a new pump. Upgrade when you do it, to help eliminate future problems.

I think it can be the hydrobooster,on that one you have a accumulator. That one is pressurised with gas and supose to help with braking, if the engine stop. It will give enough pressure on the pedal to brake 2-3 times. My pedal hit the floor at once when I stop the engine. That accumulator can hide my disapered fluid and come back when I stop the engine.
