I won't say it is impossible because almost anything is possible with enough time/effort/money/ingenuity.
You don't say if you are looking for auto or manual, so:
Auto (A4LD '93 4.0 V6 to '93 4.0 V6): not readily. '96 transmission is all electronically controlled, '93 has limited electronic controls. There would be a significant amount of electrical work to get it right.
'93 V6 to '96 V8: not going to happen
manual (M5OD '93 V6 to '96 V6). I believe this is a reasonable swap, but you will have to swap out the tailshaft and tailshaft housing to convert from 2wd to 4wd. On the M5, I don't know how much effort is involved in making this conversion.
