Battery?

had to replace the batterys today, no warning of going dead. is there a sign or warning light that should come on when they start to go bad?

Not really. Do your gauges peg? I know that on some newer Ford trucks the gauges will peg upon startup. I assume that you replaced both of them at the same time.

Batteries these days see to work or they dont. There is no real warning signs unless you constantly see if it is charging. The alternator can make up the difference if the battery is getting weak when running. Usually you have about 14-15 volts. As the battery gets weak you can get as low as 12 1/2-13. Once you hit 11-12 the battery is shot. Usually one cell starts to go and the battery loses its ability to take a charge completely.
