So what's it take to replace the oil pan on a 99 f350 7.3?
thanks
A "cherry picker", engine stand, at least one buddy, 2 to 3 days and oh yea, a new oil pan and the "special sauce" sealant.
The engine must be pulled, flipped up-side down on an engine stand, old pan removed, new one installed with 24 hours sealant cure time and put the motor back in.
If you want to replace your oil pan you will have to pull the engine completely out. If you have a hole alot of members have repaired them in various ways I bet they will pipe up shortly.
Ya oil pan with this truck is about a 1000-2000 dollar repair depending on the mechanic. I did something similar to kwik and dead .. it worked GREAT! here it goes
- Drain all oil
- with wire brush (grill brush) scrap off all the nasty crap on the bottom until its pretty clean. then use a rough grit sander to make sure your oil pan is nice and rough (and clean!)
- Again, make sure the area where the hole is, is nice and clean
- i applied some starting fluid to the pan to make sure everything was nice and dry.
- I used Bondo liquid fiberglass (the stuff with the "hair" in it) and applied it in 3 layers over about 2 hours. I used a brick and morter spreader to make sure it was nice and even. I did my entire pan too, just to make sure. Let dry for about 12-24 hours before driving.
This worked great, save ALOT of money and TIME! Definitely do this
