'66 headlight help needed

Got most everything figured out and fixed on my '66 F100, 240-6, Automatic. The problem I am having now, is that I only have what I believe is high beam headlights. Flick the dimmer, and lights go out. Hit it again, and they come one. Pulled the dimmer switch from the floor, and checked it with my meter. Contacts were dirty, and nothing getting through the other direction when switched. Kept playing with it, and now have less than a half ohm on either side. Plugged back up, and still does the same thing. Any ideas on where to go next? Don't have a diagram, and hate to cut up the all original wiring to chase this thing out, especially when it's got the original Fomoco tags on them. Thanks so much fellas. Brian

Replace the dimmer switch. When the switch fails, pressing the dimmer switch with your foot causes the headlamps go out. One minute you have high beams, next you have no beams!

I agree wiht numberdummy, replace the switch. also because these things are down in the dirt and moisture make sure that the connection is cleaned as well before you plug in the new switch, i have had to replace the switch a coupla times in the last 30 years but i can honestly say I've had more trouble with the pluggin to the switch than the switch. they get corrosion on them and dont want to make good contact. Clean the contacts with a brass brush and spray can electric parts cleaner. Use plenty of bulb grease when you plug it back in. After bad grounds and worn out switches, corroded bulkhead connectors are the next most likley culprits. Stick in a new dimmer switch, they are cheap and easy to install. Even if that is not the problem this time it will be sooner or later.

Thanks so much guys. I replaced the switch, and my low beams still didn't work. But, now I do have power at the headlight socket, which I didn't have before. Replace both lights, and works fine now. Thanks so much, Brian.
