I am installing a 460 in a 1979 f100 that had a 302. I'm almost there but want to double check some vacuum lines. I just want to get it running. does that big vacuum off the back of the carb go straight to a vac port? How about the small line on the front of the carb, same thing? I got the dist vac advance hooked up, the c6 modulator vac line hooked up, pcv to air. what other essential lines need to hooked up or plugged to get it to fire and run?
460s make terrible vacuums. I don't think your wife will appreciate trying to use one in the house.
The big port on the back of the carb connects to your PCV valve on the back side valve cover. The trans vacuum modulator and power booster line hook up directly to the manifold, typically off of the same tree, on the back left side of the intake manifold. Depending on how the distrubutor is curved, typically you want to have it run off of ported vacuum. For now, all you need to do is plug all of the nipples on the intake manifold and carburetor. Take one nipple off at a time once you have it running and the timning set, hook up a vacuum gauge. Rev the motor to about 2000 RPM. If the vacuum starts at zero, and steadily moves up, that is the one you want to use for the distributor. Depending on your carb, there might be 2 or 3 ports that do this, just find one and use it.
