Milliage Difference

I have a 2004 crew cab, 8 foot bed with around 80,000 miles. With the stock BFG all terrian 265/16 , I get 19 milles to a gallon average. During hunting season I switch to BFG mud Kings 285/17 and my milliage drops to around 16 miles a gallon average. I pull a 12 foot enclosed trailer with very little weight and it drops to around 14. If I pulled a heavy trailer or made a big difference in tires I could understand, but this is not radical changes. I do love my truck!! Is this normal??

Are you hand calculating or looking at the console? Remember that you are going to cover more ground per tire revolution with the 285's, so unless you had your truck recalibrated for the new tire size you are only logging about 90% of the miles driven which will by itself make it look like the mpg is lower.
