hey guys. i just bought a 91 f-350. when i get it to about 40-50 mph the whole truck shakes bad and the steering wheel also. does it weather im on or off the gas. if i am below or above that its alright. was woundering if you had any ideas. would umproperly balanced tires be a cause (6in suspension lift, 3 body, 38's). or maybe a improperly balanced driveshaft? ? any help is appreciated
I would be suspiscious of several things.
First off because of the lift i would guess that whoever put it on likely didnt re-align proper caster/camber.
Or also if it has a 2 peice driveshaft, there could be alot of vibration if it was not shimmed after a 6" lift. Feel both sections of your rear driveshaft, neither should be able to move side to side in relation to the other.
I've had the same problem about 4 time on my E-350 Van with a Quigley front end I change the front stabilizer bar and away I go again. I also experienced this with my 2000 Expedition the problem there was excessive wear on my front tires. I replaced the tires and sloved the problem. I hope this Helps and Good Luck.
I have been told it is hard to keep larger sized tires balanced (35"+) Might have them checked. they sell some bead weights that go inside the tires and seem to help a lot.
is there a special way to balance tires these big. im a mechanic and figured they are to big to balance like a car tire. i have a 4x4 place around me ill prob take it to to have them check it
must be some aggressive tires...swampers or groundhawgs?could be the balancing or could be a bubble...are they radials or bias ply?Could also be the driveshaft like you said or the joints like Godblessmud stated.....Luck
