i have a 2000 f250 7.3 psd, i tow a 6800 lbs boat around, the truck does just fine, but when i pull the boat out of the water the truck really seems to struggle. it doesn't move until the rps get pretty hi, it gust seems to grunt, i am not sure why it is like this with a big diesel under the hood, any suggestions?
from your description it sounds like a gearing/tranny issue, somewhat normal, do you have a 4wd, if so put it in low other wise you just have to deal with it.
One thing you could do is put in a lower stall TC, this will help lower RPMs needed to pull the boat out of the water. Other than that, like stated it is a function of an auto.
If you don't have any traction issues, then just put the truck in 4 lo. If you have a floor shifter, it will just make it 2 lo, it won't hurt a dang thing. It's not the power that affects you, it's the mechanical advantage you should have but aren't taking advantage of. Make sure the truck is in D and not the 2 right beside it, it will make it that much harder!.
that is a function of the auto tranny, ever drive a snowmobile?
yeah that's what it is but with more power it shouldn't rev up as high to pull the same load.... (at least that's how it works in my E4OD) since you would have more power down low it shouldn't need to rev up as high....
and when you're saying sounds like it's struggling, how high rpms are you talkin here??
