My Excursion was returned to the dealership after they failed to fix the problem with the PATS system that caused the truck to die on me while driving down the road. They gave me a rental car (a Chevy Impala) after some of my complaining, and had the truck towed back. Today I got the thing back (week and a half later). They changed the PATS module, which apparently was bad.
I've put 70 miles so far and it hasn't repeated the issue, so I believe it was fixed. Yahoo! I have my truck back!
The best part was the bill. I expected to have to pay for the new repair on top of the old repair, and then have to argue with them about them paying for the tow and the rental and not me. They handed me a receipt and said "You're all set." Cost? $0.00. I was amazed. This dealership has won my repeat business. To me, getting the job done right the first time is very important, but I can't blame them for the initial misdiagnosis on this issue. What to me shows really the integrity of any shop is how well they respond when something goes wrong.
