I hope someone can help me.I have a 1998 f350 dual 7.3.Lately the service engine light will come on and my gas pedal stops working.I pump the pedal it does nothing untill the light goes off, only takes a few seconds. This has been going on for about a month but not very often.thanks for any advice.
Shooting from the hip, I'm thinking you either have a bad accelerator pedal position sensor (APP) or the wire that supplies power to the APP is broken inside. The APP on the 7.3 is set up the same way that a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) used to be on the gas jobs, except that it's mounted under the dash on the end of the gas pedal on the diesels.
You can check out the operation of the APP with a multimeter. Resistance should change nice and smooth as you slowly sweep the pedal. If it has any flat spots or cutouts, you've probably found your problem. Otherwise, you're going to have to trace the "reference signal" wire (I don't have the wire color or pinouts with me) until you find the break.
I am have a similar issue with my 1999 diesel, but i keep blowing a fuse a replace it, than it runs fines than it will blow it again and my pedal has no acceleration, i have replace the pedal thinking that was it but it still keeps happening, i have use two fuses and seems not to last very long. Any ideas
