6.0 Turbo
I've done searches on 6.0 turbos on 7.3's and I saw a picture of one and had mods listed as a 6.0 VNT turbo with custom control.
The turbo as you all should know has a variable nozzles that decrease lag. These newer garrett VNT's have a oil pressure actuated nozzle control system. It is sorta like the HEUI injection. The set up uses a electronic solenoid to adjust the oil pressure to move the vanes.
Even though the 6.0 is a smaller motor it would probably have greater air flow requirments than a equivalent 7.3 ( im guessing) because of the increased flow rates of the 16valve heads
The promblem is controlling this bugar on a 7.3. In order to create a map for control, I believe you need to know a few parameters from the engine.
Feel Free to add any suggestions
Throttle Position
Engine Load
Engine RPM
Boost
Exhuast backpressure sensor
I'm sure there is a simpler way to obtain these from the PCM but I was thinking of hijacking these signals from an edge programmer unit. Even with these signals we would need a computer to interpret these signals and determine the amount of voltage (0-5 vts i believe) to the VNT soleniod.
I believe its possible.
Have a setup similar to the wastegate on the 7.3 turbo but it moves the vanes instead of a wastegate.
I don't know, but it might tend to stall at low rpm.
It sure would spool up fast quickly that way.
