i just bought the ford oem 20" rims from the 06+ f150's. if i transfer my pressure sensors to the new rims, will they still work properly? they are the valve stem type, not the band type. the new tires hold 44psi max, but my plan was to set them around 38psi, except on my long trips, where i will set them to 40 psi probably. the oe 265/70/17's hold 35 psi.
Hey markIII, I'm pretty sure the monitors WILL still work if you just pull out the entire stem and install on the new rims. Are you sure they will fit tho?? On my F150 Roush rims, they could not retro fit the monitors onto the new wheels, so now every time I start the car, I get the warning light on the dash telling me something is wrong! Its a simple reset and the trip computer, etc work fine. Moderately a pain the a**, but not that big of deal.
entire system? all i would have to do is move the valve stems from the old wheels to the new wheels. hopefully they fit!! if not, i'll just have one of the techs hook up the ids to the truck and turn the system off so i don't get the message everytime the truck starts up.
Hey mark, what is the ids do you refer to? Is that the program computer at the dealership or something? and is the tpms something you can havde shut off? I guess that would be easier than pressing reset every time I start the car!!! Or Im wondering if they have smaller sensors these days that would fit in my wheel now... guess i should check into that one!
rick chi-town.....I have a feeling that the store that you went to did not know how to deal with TPMS sensors. The sensor is part of the valve stem, all they would have had to do is transfer the valve stems from your old wheels to the new wheels. I don't think Ford usues the "strap on" sensors anymore so swapping them is a cinch.
You can still salvage your TPMS if you have your old wheels.
the ids is the computer the dealerships usse to program various modules. they can turn off the tpms which will take care of the reset button. i dont see why the shop didnt try to swap your sensors over. they should fit without any problems. if you like the system, and you still have the old wheels, definately go back and swap them over. they won't need to be reprogrammed either....all you did is put them on different wheels.
