Now we got it nailed. I dropped the pan and the crank is a 2U. I also used a inside caliper and measured the bore. It is 4.06 which is 4.05" +.010 over bore. The stroke is 3.75" Voila it's a 390! LOL By the way Idid a lot of scraping and found a head number. It is C8AE H
Now I know and knowing is half the battle. Thanks to all for the info!

2U = C6AZ-6303-A .. Crankshaft ~ 1966/71 390: Galaxie, Torino & Torino GT; Mustang, T-Bird 2/4V / 1968/72 390 F100/350
C8AE-H, cast in 1968. The Ford P&S finished bare block from this casting number is: C8AZ-6010-C, and could be used 1965/71 390's. Another finished bare block from this casting was used for 428's.
.
It may be a 390, but its flywheel and intake manifold are 330 M/D.
One exhaust manifold is 352 only, the other is 352/360/390.
The dizzy is from a 67 Galaxie.
I still can't find the engineering cross reference number for the timing cover, but I suspect it's off a 330 M/D.
The same FE timing cover was used from 1958 thru 1976. It's different than the one used on a 1964/78 FT engine.

C8AE-H heads were produced from late 1967 to late 1971. It's nothing but the std FE head used on all std production FE motors, 360, 390, 428 and Marine 427's.
I've never seen them on 427 marine engines. What years were they used? I've only seen the C7TE-A and C7JE-A heads on them. And those are the same as the C6AE-R heads. Last 427 marine I tore down was a 68 and had the JE heads on it.
Hang on I do remember a 68 marine head. I don't remember the entire number but C8--6090-J. I don;t know if they were a C8WE, C8AE or C8JE but they appeared to be the same J heads from the Cougars (C8WE-6090-J) which later evolved into the C8OE-N CJ heads. Anyhoo in my cases these were all marine lowrisers and didn't have the lowered ex ports like the C8-H heads. It's been a few years sicne I've found one. But I still search the boatyards on the coast looking for them. I've found them in Chris Crafts, Hatteras and Trojans. Lots of the marine parts had a C7TE numbers and looked like truck/industrial parts. I never really looked into it much as the heads and shortblocks were all I was after.
I thru that in figuring they'd be used on the base marine 427's, being that they used std 390 parts. Seems like I've seen a few with em on ebay listings for these.
