The AOD was used with a 6 bolt engine, so you could easily mount it to a 300 Six. In many ways it would be better than a manual trans, but it would depend on your personal preferences. The main thing would be to gear it so the engine can pull OD, and that would normally be a 4.11 ratio rear with 30 inch diameter tires.
The T-85 OD is the model that was originally designed for the Lincoln engines and is very strong. It has a "crash" low, and to use it you need a kickdown switch, an overdrive relay, and wiring to the governor and the solenoid on the transmission, and a lead to the ignition coil. (shorts the coil during kickdown). Since Ford used it with 6 bolt engines, you can use the passenger model or the truck model. However, to use it with a 53-60 truck, you would have to use a third party bellhousing that has the truck motor mounts on it, or you would have to use a passenger or later truck bellhousing with the passenger main drive gear and use a tailshaft transmission mount and side engine mounts. You would have to use this with the AOD as well, and for all I know you may be using this now to accomodate your 300 Six.
