miles out of a 7.3 liter diesel?

I worked on a '95 (or was it '97?) heavy-duty F350 once. I had to replace the Auto tranny in it. This thing was an all stock XLT, but competely optioned out 4door long bed 4x4 single-rear-wheel.
We got the new tranny in there and test drove it for a while. The owner took such good care of it that it was like brand new. It had been repainted once, interior was in nice shape, CD player, shiny wheels, good tires...I mean, it looked like it had just come off the lot brand new! (save for a few scratches here and there) Engine was all original and it didn't look like anybody had been crawling around in that bay (6.0 liter engines are always clean because people are always working on them).
I would not hesitate to buy this old used F250 with 250,000 on it where I work...if diesel wasn't so expensive here. Although if they ever bring Biodiesel around, maybe I could trade in my '84....(strokes beard)

I got 211K miles on mine. no major problems. I thought synchros were going out in my ZF since the shifter would jump out of 2nd and also didnt like the 2-3 shift but i bled the slave cylinder and both problems seem to have cleared up. running good now. body falling apart around it. motor seems tight and fires on the first try every time.
oh also just towed my 6500# toy hauler out to the desert and back (200+ mi) last weekend running the 22K mod and it ran great. going out again next weekend.

Just to put up a post for what I feel about these engines, UPS has been using thousands of these engines in their package car fleet since the pre powerstrocks. I see many of these with well over 350,000 miles on the original motor with no blow by or starting isues. Just think of the abuse these trucks get in one day. They are started hundreds of times a day (required to shut them off at every stop). They are always floored, most drivers do not drive these trucks nice. Many of them spend lots of miles on some of the roughest dirt roads and still hold up and don't forget they are always loaded down. They also run higher rpms from being geared very low (max speed is about 70 at governed rpm) I have only had to change one in my fleet due to it sucked water through the intake and broke a rod and sent it through the block. Besides changing injector o-rings, lift pumps, ipr and oil cooler leaks, they hold up exceptionaly well giving very little problems. Excellent engine in my opinion I just don't like the electronics required to run it. Expensive!!! Well, Have a great day.

Its really not that big of a pain, you get used to blocking 4 lanes of traffic trying to pop a u on a busy street or parking a mile from the wal-mart entrence just to find a COUPLE parking spots you can fit in. No really, its not that bad though. Thanks tjbeggs and strockin'- tatsch and have a great day!!!!!!!!
