Advice and info

I have been reading and reading and search the net for all the info I can on my 53 build. I have a few question I hope to get answers to but first a little of what I plan to do.

I want to build this truck mainly for cruising and show. I dont want or care of it is complete resto down to the last paint dot on the axle.

At this point I am trying to find and source parts for it. My new mission now that all the body parts are found is the suspension. My plan is to stay stock axle with a disk brake upgrade. I want to get the bracket from someone (f100 central etc..) but would like to get the rest on my own. I like hunting for stuff. So my question is this.....

1. what year rotors do I need?
2. What is a good year GM car to get the calipers off of?
3.What master cylinder/booster should I use for the Disk/Drum setup?

I plan to run the drum brakes on the rear. I would like to find a ford 9" for the rear. Most I have seen are Drums.

Also is there anyone in Maryland that know of some good junyards that have crap older then 99 in them???? Looking for other stuff for my dad.

We used an ECI Brake kit, I recommend checking with them for the brake kit information. I think you will find buying the kits is pretty economical. Most rotors in the salvage yards are junk and the calipers are going to need rebuild. Also, most of the time you have to change the bearing size and change the rotor race for the setup to work on the old spindles. The kits have all that stuff for the respective year.

In our 60 we used a master cylinder and booster from a 1973 F150, but it mounts to the firewall. I don't know much about the under the cab setup.

Good luck

I got mine from Mid Fifties, it is under the floor like orginal. One thought , I wouldn't buy the master until you know if you are disk/drum of disk/disk. I does make a difference in the master you use. I went disk/disk and it comes with the proportioning valve.
I really agree with not using junk yard stuff for this. It can get really complicated and expense before you get done, not to mention all the work.
