i6 cylinder head

i6 cylinder head

Anybody know if the i6 cylinder head is the same on the EFI and carb version of the engine.

yes and no.

they will physically interchange, but the EFI head has a smaller, fast burn style chamber. the style of rocker arms also varies between years. EFI are all bolt down style, while carb heads have 3 different arm styles depending on years.

Swapping heads will change the compression ratio by about 1 full point, but will also chage what timing curve the motor wants. The EFI head makes better power at less total advance.

I found out the hard way, unrecurved DuraSpark-II + EFI head leads to
If you're gonna do it, make sure to redo that ignition curve.

Back somewhere October-November 2004. I drove it around 200 miles home like that. Cruised at 70 the whole way. LOL
It still started and ran, with a little effort before I yanked in and threw a 351 at the truck.
