engine swap

My 2003 F-150, 5.4, blew up but I have 1999 F-150, 5.4, what is the difference? Mechanics say 99 will not work in 03. What do I need to change for swap and will it work?

Should all be the same.... i dont know of any differences in those 2 years...

I guess from what the wreckers and the ford dealer say that 2002 - 2004 5.4 are the same but 1999 5.4 is diff. i would like to know what the diff is. thank you

HP is different, torque too, i think they are higher in the 2000+ than the 99 down. plus i think the 03+ or the 05+ are 3v instead of 2v like the 99 is

They got the PI heads in 99, so I don't know why they would be any different. The 04 5.4L got the 3V heads so that won't work, I believe that there is a misprint somewhere in the interchange manual. 97-98 non-PI same, 99-03 PI same, 04-08 3V same.

my 02 5.4l droped in place of my 99 4.6l with out a hitch.... so what is different is beyond me. I my 4.6l wasnt even PI... so i would say that an 02 5.4l should drop right in...

And all 5.4l's where PI in 99 same as 02... only some of the 4.6l's where PI in 99...mine not being one.
