I'm running a 1976 ford f-150 351 w 38.5x16.5x15 super swampers runnin a 9" ford in the rear and a high pinion 44 in the front geared at 513. gettin a little nervous about my little 44 and not ready to go to a d 60 yet may go bigger something like rockwels in the future but for now would like to hear some thoughts on chrome moly axle shafts, what kinda gains will I get from these.
oh and all i do is some moderate to heavy muddin thankx in advance
stronger, and more expensive. I bought a set of chromoly shafts for my 78 Bronco Dana44 front with 4.88 gears from Alloy USA, haven't installed them yet though. I am tired of breaking the stock shafts. It took about 4 weeks to get them made, may be longer now. JSM84
i've heard a lot of people still breaking cromo shafts with heavy tires and a deep pedal. personally, i wouldnt... i would put that money towards stronger axles. the only way you will see a strength gain is if you run a set of longfields (http://www.toyotasuperaxles.com/300M_ujoint.html) or comparable. i'd say well over half of the breakages occur b/c the joint cant take the stress and let go.
