Hi,A question. I have a 1990 EFI engine in my pickup and had ordered a Chrome Valve Cover from Clifford. Well I went to put it on and it won't fit. The center cover brace is 1/2 inch to far foward and hitts a rocker. I called Clifford and they were no help at all, they were going to give me the phone number of the manufacturer, the cover says Made in Taiwan, and said I should talk to them. I told the guy on the phone it was his product and he should know about it and it wasn't my place to call anybody. So much for future dealings with Clifford, they don't know their own stuff , they don't answer email and charged me $24 to ship the cover in the first place, when I called them about it they said it was someone elses shipping charge and finally credited me $10. What a way to run a buisness.
Any way has any else run into this problem . Looks as if I can take out the stiffener and the cover might fit.
Hi, an update on the valve cover. It won't fit. The baffles under the holes for the PCV Valve and the vent still hit the rocker arms.I could probably remove them and it would fit but I am afraid the engine will start sucking oil. There is no room to use the baffeled gromets either, too wide at 1". If any one has a late model 4.9 probably starting with the EFI models in 88 or so be careful if you order a chrome cover # 43-4095 from Clifford. It was probably designed for the earlyier models with smaller rocker arms. I would asume Clifford should know this but hey I also still think I will be rich some day.
I'm glad you posted about your experience. I'm sorry I can't help but feel it's really important to spread the word about crap customer service. I'm the type that pays more for the service when you need it, not pay more because they (cliff) is the one of the only players in the game. I'm yet to give them any of my business and have reason to keep it that way, especially for shotty application matching. Thanks for sharing
I had the same problem with a cheapie chrome valve cover from ssautochrome.com. First they sent me the wrong one, which isn't too big of a deal (though they didn't pay shipping back, whatever) because ##### happens. But when the regular one comes in and it had the same problem (middle brace/baffle not where it should be) and the rear-most hold didn't line up they basically told me tough luck.
I think the only real good way to do this is to take a stocker and get it chromed. A good quality job on the valve cover will cost around $90, but 1) It will fit perfectly 2) You can get the ones that say "Power by Ford" chromed which is cool 3) It doesn't say some other company on your valve cover. Heck, i'm running offenhauser and hooker so why would i pay to have Clifford on my valve cover? Its just not right
I just got off the phone with one of the local plating shops and that is where the original cover is going as soon as I finish this. Should have done that in the first place. Any one want a chrome valve cover?
Has no baffles but you can get baffeled gromets, I have one baffled gromet. Very Very reasonable.
