Im looking at ordering a toolbox for my 2000 f-350 reg. cab, im currently looking at a deezee competitor series single lid box, just wondering if anyone has any experience with these box's? what brands do you recomend? im going to be using it mainly for storage of tow straps, rathcets, hitches, etc. so it wont be open and closing all the time.. also my truck is dark green do you think the black diamond plate would look better than the regular polished tool box's? and what size should i order for it?
The black coating will peel off of cheaper boxes. The only ones I've seen that stay black are Weatherguard and ones with Line-X on them. Brand wise, go with Delta or Weathguard. Kobalts, Welds, and TSC are the only others I've known people who used, and it seems like the lids crap out on the early on (warping and hinge failure). Look at the locks on whatever you get, and don't store anything in them that's not easy to replace. Around school here a fair number of boxes get pried open with a cowbar, adn the locks just break.
I've personally got a nice Weatherguard aluminum, but I justified the $$ because I use it almost daily, got it on sale , and the locks are supposed to be pretty strong (I have some pricey junk in the back usually). My brother has a Delta Champ that he opens maybe twice a month except during hunting season that works fine for him, but the push button locks are getting kinda stiff and the lid doesn't seal up like it did when it was new. My boss used Weathguard steel that I'm pretty sure were tougher than the Dodge they were bolted on to.
Size wise get on the manufacturers site and pull up a .pdf of their spec sheet. Usually they list by Make and Model of truck, then offer different set ups like wide, extra deep, ect.
good info. to know right there... i think i might stray away from the black toolbox and stick with the regular coating... anyone have any experience with tws toolbox's? my uncles used them on his past two trucks and loves em and hes a contractor but he never uses the locks though so i dont know how those are.
i use a jobox toolbox, heavier construction that weatherguard and it is a few inches wider so it goes farther on each framerail. weatherguard doesnt make a specific SD toolbox so they dont go too far on each rail, they do have one in develpment but its not out yet. my jobox is built like a vault. but i paid good money for it.
I've had a DeeZee black toolbox on my truck for a bit over a year. It has proven to be tough and reliable. No problems with the black paint coating either.
My last truck had a polished aluminum Dee-Zee toolbox. The clear-coat over the aluminum lasted about 3 years and the toolbox lost most of it's shine. It lasted for 11 years though.
Weather guard-use them on every company truck survive any and all abuse big enough to put power tool box in and best latch and lock out there, my dad has black diamond plate it gets abused by tool box standards and still looks great. If you want it to last get a weatherguard you can get it at a tractor supply
i have a husky on mine just because i came with it. it works holds tools, looks good, but has a dent in it not as thick metal, but its a good box for the price. wish i had a weather guard
just beware on whatever box you get to make sure the key code is not stamped on the lock if it is grind the code off as i did not know about this in the past and lost 60k worth of tools for a locksmith that made my code for 3 dollars for a thief
good pointer that would surely ruin my day... i think im going to go with a delta champion box, just cant decide whether i want the low profile or regular box.. im going to stick with the regular diamond plate instead of the black.. id love to get a weatherguard but for what im going to use it for i cant justify the extra money... its basically going to store my hitch, jumper cables, tow chains/straps... etc... that i dont want in my cab since i dont have that much extra room with the reg. cab..
I used to have a Delta......HATED IT. The lock mechanism was cheaply made, and the lid wasn't beefy at all. I now have a HUSKY toolbox, much happier with it. It has dual locks & handles. I have the low-profile type that sits down in the bed. Much better quality.
I use this box from tractor supply. http://www.tractorsupply.com/include...rodTitle=CHEST There are more options available out there, but this is what I use. I can't think of the manufacturer, but it is one of the big names. It sits below the rail so its not obvious. It also doesn't interfere with my 5th wheel hitch. It is aluminum and mine is black diamond plate. It doesn't leak and has worked out great. It is alot larger than I need and is huge. Picking out a tool box is a big deal!!
Delta are great boxes and they stick by their product. We have many of these boxes ready to ship, and we have a lowest price guarantee. So if you find the same box somewhere for cheaper we will match the price. PM if you have any questions.

I store the same stuff, including my jack, and didn't want to lose my full bed to a tool box. So I went this route as it holds it all and fits in the space rarely used. I got one, StorageMax, that was heavy plastic but many are made from metal w/ Diamond plate; White, polished, or black.
Look into them . . . After After using this one I wanted more room for other stuff so got this one for the other side. It is a Geneva flat black metal box. I like the 5 drawer setup for getting at smaller items.
If your willing to spend the money, and its worth it... Weatherguard, hands down. I have yet to find a better quality toolbox... I look for used ones just to save a few hundred, and was looking for a black model 117, but they are hard to find. I just picked up a 2 year old clear coated aluminum model 117 for $280 locally, it has a couple marks but its going to get that way anyway. I think the black would look awesome on your truck personally, but go with the Weatherguard and you will be happy with either finish. Just keep an eye out for used ones (local paper, craiglist, ebay, etc..) and you can find some good deals.
