Hello everyone and thanks for the forum. I'm new here and wanted to say thnaks as I have already found some useful info just browsing around. I also wanted to add that it is very user friendly relative to some of the other forums out there, (great job on the site design!)
I have a 97 F150 with the 4.6. I am trying to change out the harmonic balancer and am wondering what is the best way to get the fan clutch off. I have a big enough wrench and understand it has reversed threads. Is there a simple and safe way to hold the pulley while loosening the clutch? (I have probably screwed up by already removing the belt). I'm getting ready to go and see what a clutch removal tool looks like and maybe borrow one.
You need a narrow wrench that can slide in hold it while you remove it. I've even made my own from scrape steel. Once you see the clutch removal tool it will all make sense.
