working on helicopters for the marine corps. we need to keep of the gas turbine temps(egt) and we have 8 probs that go around the can into a box that would do the adv, of all readings. any one know of a kit that will do this? ie. tap the right and left banks into one reading to get a better reading?

How about one better, tap each cylinder's exhaust manifold, and get an 8-cylinder monitor with overtemp warning. Made for piston engine aircraft, available about anywhere aircraft parts are sold. Not too cheap though...

Go to Diesel Manor's website and they have photo's of the recommended location on the exhaust manifold.
I have pre & post pyrometers on mine. Pre I watch when towing and post I watch before I shutdown the engine.

Then you know how much longer it takes your post turbo EGT to cool down vs the pre! Please post this the next time see a thread on how long to cool down. Everyone is told 300 to 350 pre EGT is fine, but it's still much hotter than that inside the turbo, which retains heat like a cast iron wood stove!

I never shut down mine if it is above 300 degrees F. Most times if I have to downshift my stick to wheel in to a fuel stop or a rest area it is almost there or below when I get stopped. Idling when just above 300 when hot takes several minutes cool down time. If you allow to idle for 15 minutes like ford recommends it will be below 250 degrees F. I find that the exhaust manifold temperature by the time it gets to 300 the Pre & post are only about 5 degrees apart.
