Where did you get yours? Their site is not real clear on purchases, doesn't even give a link to their dealers.

I've got the Viper in mine, and I love it. I just preset the defroster when I park it at night and run it for about 5 min before I leave in the winter. I seems that you need to get a little heat in the motor to make any power, and I usually need the power to pull out onto the highway. Anyways, the Viper has the cool down timer, and all of the other bells and whistles.

Just a last comment. I do not think the brand matters much, as most of these has pretty much the same features. But I would definitely consider getting one , especially in the colder areas.

Here in Houston, I can see an air-conditioning application for it in summer.....

Also, some of them has a feature where you can program it to start your truck say every 4 hours, let it run for 5 or 10 minutes, and shut it off. Nice, when you cannot plug it in....

Ok well i know its better to just drive in warmer temps but i cant imagine doing that when the temps are 5* and lower here in MI. If that oil is still pretty thick you can get piston scuff and damage lots of "pretty parts". Am i wrong or misinformed? i usually let my truck warm up when its Really cold out for about 5-10 minutes.

Randomhero1172, I agree with you. I'm not one to let it sit and warm up for a long time. But it can't hurt to let the fluids warm a little and start flowing instead of being "molasses" in the engine.

I am also in agreement with the last 2 posters. No one on this post has mentioned any warmup longer that 5 or 10 minutes. And we all know a diesel runs better the warmer it is, because the oil is thinner, and the diesel ignites easier.

When a diesel is run cold, it is really loud, and I just think it puts more stress on your connecting rods, crank and bearings running it like that. Just my $0.02.

On another note, earlier in the post it was mentioned that it is better to start up cold in stock, rather than any of the DP tunes. Can anybody explain why?

How much are you guys paying to have a remote starter installed? I had one on my truck and the POS never worked right, so i ended up hanking it off. I want a new one, but install looks like its gonna cost me.

A company in town wants $230 installed w/1200' range. If you goto a bigger place like car stereo one or the like I think it will be cheaper, but then you have joblow doing it. This is the delema I am in, don't know who to trust so I'm thinking I need to do it myself. Seeing the unit for less than $100, that leaves $130 for install, OUCH!

I have heard of install costs of $300-$400 for some of the remote starts with alarms.

Years ago I had Best Buy install a simple remote door lock system on the wifes mini-van. When we went to pick it up the dash lights, dash guages, reverse lights and high beams didn't work! These idiots hacked the wiring up so bad that Best Buy ended up pulling the remote system and paying the dealership $1100 to fix the wiring.

Just another reason I installed my remote start myself.

Years ago we took my wife's mini van in to a large stereo place to have a 6-disc installed under the drivers seat, the cut the hole for the wiring clear back about 6" in FRONT of the second row seat! Then ran the wire on top of the carpet right where the passenger feet would be! To a unit that was under the frickin front seat! Can you tell I'm still mad about it? How frickin stupid could you be to do that? This besides leaving most of the trim hanging and broken. I've been a doiturselfer all my life and the one time I let a pro do something!

I just had remote start put on my '01 7.3L 250 and I love it. Its nice in the morning before I leave for my classes. Here is the kind I have http://www.viper.com/Products/Product.aspx?ProductID=115

I had it installed at Mickey Shorr and it was approx $340 with the door lock option and a 3 year warranty

I laughted at a buddy of mine who put one in his truck, we went to the UP for hunting... I had to eat my words, coming from sitting in a tree stand all day, hitting that button from 3/4 of mile away, walking up to a warm truck... oh yeah!!!
